The Truth about Having a Healthy Marriage

The Truth about Having a Healthy Marriage

Presented by a Proficient Couples Counselor

As people say, love is a chemistry. People fall in love and fall out of love as well. And it seems like couples have the habit to determine the health of their marriage by how in love the husband and wife are with each other. What can a professional couple counselor have to say about it?
I am happy, so everything is OK, most of us claim. We have used to measure the success of our relationship or marriage by our happiness. However, that happiness might be coming from work, the social life, or any other external factors.

Falling in love is a natural process that doesn’t require any extra energy or effort. Emotions take over and many studies show the evidence of specific chemical reactions in the brain of the people in love. It is often connected with affection, passion, and devotion. But the feelings a couple have towards each other usually don’t sustain themselves. As a matter of fact, scientists have come to the conclusion that the initial attraction lasts no longer than two years. After that period, the feelings and emotions start to fade.

Married couples also determine the health of their relationship by the things they share with each other and the things they do together. There are couples who really enjoy one another’s company and they like doing many things together. For example, going on vacations and adventures together is often a symbol of how healthy a relationship is. So, the main question here is: “Is the health of a marriage determined by feelings or behavior?” For some people, the formula for a successful marriage is when they feel good or feel something towards each other. The moment, they stop feeling a desire for intimacy, this is the moment of falling out of love and for many married couples, this is the end of their marriage. The truth is if you do nothing to nurture your relationship, the process of faded feelings comes naturally.
